Five adventures in Marlborough this autumn
Colour pulses throughout the region, as the grape harvest begins and a small army of workers descend to work in the vineyards and wineries. The vibrancy of harvest, with shimmering autumn leaves and bright sunny days make it an incredible time to enjoy the region.
Queen Charlotte Track
Stunning coastal views and native bush make the Queen Charlotte Track a unique Marlborough walking and biking experience. Take a scenic cruise to Ship Cove/Meretoto and explore one of Captain Cook’s favourite places. The track offers stunning panoramic views across the Sounds and gets you up close and personal with native birds. Small beaches scattered throughout the journey make for perfect picnic spots, and private accommodation is available right along the track.
Furneaux Lodge
Located in the Endeavour Inlet, Furneaux Lodge offers a relaxing escape in paradise. A range of accommodation, from contemporary suites to family-friendly cottages, all with sea views, and basic hiker’s cabins, offer something for everyone. With a backdrop of native forest, the lodge’s iconic historic homestead looks out over rolling lawns to the green-blue sea beyond. Furneaux Lodge is Marlborough family-owned and operated, and accessible by boat from Picton or via the Queen Charlotte Track.
Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre
Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre is a world-class museum displaying WW1 and WW2 aircraft and artefacts. Take a step back into history and view the stunning displays of Sir Peter Jackson’s collection and rare memorabilia, including personal items belonging to the famous Red Baron himself. During your visit to Omaka, you can sip on a hot barista coffee from the café or go for a joy ride in a Boeing Stearman, Arvo Anson Mk.1 or Yakovlev Yak-3.

Specialising in tailor-made cruising, sightseeing, fishing, and overnight charters, you’ll be all set to explore some of the world's best kept secrets with local owner, skipper and chef Grant Orchard.

Motuara Island Bird Sanctuary is a predator free island administered by the Department of Conservation, attracting bird lovers from all over the world. Be welcomed by a chorus of songs from the local inhabitants. All introduced pests were removed in the early 1990’s and the island is now home to a variety of native species which have struggled to survive on the mainland. Enjoy a rare glimpse of these critically endangered birds, thriving in their own safe haven.
