Being great Kaitiaki
At Christchurch Airport, being great Kaitiaki – guardians of safety, security and sustainability – is a key pillar of our business. We’re committed to protecting our people and working with our stakeholders and campus community to achieve a safe environment for everyone.
From projects on the airfield to the construction of multi-storey buildings, mowing our lawns around campus to the public using our facilities, we bring our Kaitiakitanga to life through a culture of safety leadership and strong safety values, underpinned by critical risk management and robust safety management systems.

Safety Champions
We partner closely with our construction contractors to help them drive positive and proactive safety cultures on work sites around the airport.
As part of this partnership we’ve developed the Safety Champions Campaign to Protect Our People.
This campaign encourages individuals to think about their behaviour and how the decisions they make impact on others they work with. Around the airport campus you'll see Safety Champions messages on hoardings, buildings and high visibility vests, reinforcing the concept that safety starts with each person on a site.
