A new airport for Central Otago

New Zealanders are uniquely reliant on aviation. It’s the only way we can easily explore the world and the only way to get critical, time sensitive goods to and from our country. We need a strong aviation network which is why we’re exploring the potential for a new regional airport in Central Otago.

Using our expertise to solve a well-known problem

The populations in the lower South Island are some of the fastest growing in the country.

The reality is current airport infrastructure won’t meet future needs - particularly not in a low carbon economy.

Where to site airport infrastructure in the region has been debated for more than 30 years, yet our project is the first to fully explore the option of a new regional airport.

This wouldn’t be just any airport. It would enable decarbonised aviation and be an exemplar for future airports that solves the projected constraints for the very long-term.

We’re already engaging with multiple communities and will continue to do so in a respectful manner.

We have the expertise to do this. Christchurch Airport’s consistently rated as one of the best airports in Australia and New Zealand and we were the first in the world to receive the highest carbon certification an airport can achieve (ACA Level 4).

We will always remain just as committed to Christchurch. If this project proceeds, it would add to the value and returns we deliver to the city.

This project’s potential to make a difference is something we are determined to realise – for Christchurch, for the South Island and for future generations.
